Ready in: 1-2 hrs
Difficulty: 3 (1=easiest :: hardest=5)
Serves/Makes: 3 dozen
Ingredients:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter or regular margarine, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 cup old fashioned or quick cooking oats
1 bag (14 ounce size) caramels, unwrapped
1/3 cup half-and-half
1 cup semisweet chocolate chunks
1 cup coarsely chopped mixed nuts
1/4 cup broken pretzel twists
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 F. If you are using a dark or a nonstick pan, heat oven to 325 F. Grease and lightly dust with a flour, a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
Beat brown sugar, butter, and egg in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed, or mix well using a wooden spoon. Stir in the oats and the flour. Spread in prepared baking dish. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
Meanwhile, heat the caramels and the half-and-half in a 1 quart saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally, until the caramels are melted. Pour the caramel mixture over the warm crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chunks, nuts, and the pretzels.
Bake for 5 to 8 minutes more or until the chocolate is softened. Cool for about one hour or until the chocolate is set. Cut into bars.
