Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.

1/2 cup butter flavored shortening, melted
2 eggs
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 cup unsifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Beat eggs until light and foamy in large bowl of electric mixer. Beat in sugar, vanilla extract and shortening until creamy.
Combine flour with baking powder and salt; add to egg mixture. Mix at low speed until blended. Stir in nuts at low speed (mixture will be stiff). Spread evenly in pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until top is light brown. Cool 10 to 15 minutes.
Cut into squares.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

I have been making these since Loretta Lynn and her husband use to do commercials. This is my husband's most favorite dessert. He is always wanting me to make them.

I've used several recipes before for chewies and this one by far is my favorite. Simple to use and they come out perfect everytime.

Don't believe it! I just found the original recipe that I cut out of a magazine at least 3 decades ago with Loretta Lynn's picture on it. Never made them for my sons and now I can. If I remember, I used pecans.

I have been searching for this recipe for years! I used to make them as a teenager, 25 years ago, lol! Always had requests for the recipe and was always asked to bring them to family functions. I lost the recipe about 20 years ago and have regretted it ever since. Thank you so much for posting!
