A great snack food for movie night or a munchie for a party. The pretzels absorb the flavors of the mustard so the stronger the mustard, the stronger the flavor. Want them spicier? Try Chinese hot mustard!

ingredients

2 pounds hard sourdough or mini pretzels
1 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cup prepared mustard*
1/2 cup honey or more to taste
1/4 cup onion powder

directions

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.

In a large bowl, break pretzels into pieces as small as possible, you want them bite sized. In a separate bowl add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.

Pour the mustard mixture over the pretzels and make mix them together well. You want to make sure all of the pieces get coated.

Spread pretzels onto a large jelly roll pan or roasting pan. bake for two hours stirring occasionally.

Cool and store in an airtight container.

cook's notes

*the yellow stuff, however if you feel adventurous try the Dijon mustard or 1/2 prepared yellow and 1/2 Dijon mustard.

  1. RB REVIEW:

I'm sorry to reduce my rating for these pretzels. After baking much longer and at a higher temp, these finally seemed like they might crunch up as they cooled. It would have been helpful to know that they aren't crunchy when done. This was an after thought and I'm glad I didn't leave them in longer than I did! My other comment is that they lost flavor after baking, enough that my daughter commented that they didn't taste much different from the regular ones!

These taste great and I haven't even baked them yet!
