ingredients

1 package miniature pretzels
2 cups strawberry or vanilla yogurt
5 cups confectioners' sugar

directions

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

In a large mixing bowl, mix the confectioners' sugar into the yogurt one cup at a time with a hand blender.

Using tongs or chopsticks, dip the pretzels, one at a time into the frosting and place them on the wire cooling rack (Place a cookie sheet under the wire rack to catch the excess frosting that will drip from the pretzels).

Once all pretzels are coated, turn your oven off and place the wire rack and cookie sheet in, leaving the oven door slightly open. The excess heat will help the frosting dry without leaving the pretzels soggy.

Allow frosting to harden for 3-4 hours, remove from oven, and store pretzels in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

recipe tips

If the confectioners' sugar is lumpy, sift it before combining with the yogurt.

To prevent sticking, line the cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Try different yogurt flavors like blueberry, peach, or honey for variety.

For a healthier version, use low-fat or non-fat yogurt.

Gently tap the tongs or chopsticks to remove excess frosting before placing the pretzels on the rack.

Rotate the wire rack halfway through drying for even hardening of the frosting.

Sprinkle the pretzels with crushed nuts or sprinkles before the frosting hardens, if desired.

If the frosting is too thick, thin it with a tablespoon of milk or water.

Consider dipping only half of each pretzel for a less sweet snack or dip the other half in another flavor yogurt mixture for a dual-coating.

Always let the pretzels cool completely before storing to prevent them from becoming soggy.

Package the yogurt-covered pretzels in decorative bags for gifts or party favors.

common recipe questions

Can I use Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt?

Yes, Greek yogurt can be used for a thicker coating, but it may be tangier.

What can I use instead of confectioners' sugar?

Confectioners' sugar is essential for the right texture and sweetness; there's no direct substitute. You could try pulverizing granulated sugar in a blender or food processor to try to get the same consistency.

Can I use a different flavor of yogurt?

You can use any flavored yogurt you prefer or plain yogurt for a less sweet version. Just be sure to use one that is smooth (that doesn't contain chunks of fruit, etc).

How do I store and keep the pretzels?

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Can these pretzels be frozen?

We haven't tested freezing these but they should freeze fine. Just freeze them in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

tools needed

Hand Blender: For mixing the confectioners' sugar into the yogurt to create a smooth frosting for the pretzels. You can also use a whisk if you do not have a hand blender.

Wire Cooling Rack: For placing the yogurt-coated pretzels to allow excess frosting to drip off while drying and hardening.

Cookie Sheet: Placed under the wire rack to catch the excess frosting that drips from the pretzels as they dry in the oven.

Tongs or Chopsticks: Used for dipping the pretzels into the yogurt frosting one at a time. You can also use a candy dipping fork (but no need to go buy one if you don't have one).

Large Mixing Bowl: To combine the confectioners' sugar and yogurt together to create the coating for the pretzels.

Airtight Container: For storing the yogurt-covered pretzels after the frosting has hardened.

what goes with it?

Gourmet Cheese Platter: Add these yogurt covered pretzels to your cheese platter for a sweet and crunchy addition. The tangy yogurt and the salty pretzels will pair perfectly with a selection of fine cheeses.

Ice Cream Topping: Crumble the yogurt-covered pretzels over ice cream sundaes. The combination of creamy cold ice cream with crunchy pretzels adds texture and flavor.

Trail Mix Ingredient: Chop the pretzels into smaller pieces and mix them into a homemade trail mix with nuts and dried fruits. The salty-sweet flavor pairs well with the other components.

Coffee Pairing: Serve alongside a cup of coffee or a latte. The sweetness of the pretzels can complement the bitterness of the coffee.

Party Snack Platter: Include the pretzels on a party snack platter mixed with other sweet and savory snacks such as cheese cubes, cured meats, or fruit.
