ingredients

2 pounds fresh green beans
8 slices turkey bacon or regular bacon
1 can (10 ounce size) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sliced mushrooms
salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup french fried onions

directions

Rinse the green beans and dry on paper toweling. Snip the ends and cut the beans into bite-sized pieces.

Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until it is crisp. Remove from the skillet and let cool on paper toweling. Crumble the bacon into bits.

Combine the soup, milk, mushrooms, bacon, and green beans in a crock pot. Mix well. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 3 hours or until heated through.

Season with salt and pepper as needed. Top with the onions right before serving.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

Trimming the green beans before adding them to the crock pot provides a more uniform texture in the final dish.

For added flavor, saute the mushrooms in a skillet before adding them to the crock pot.

If using frozen green beans, be sure to adjust the cooking time as they will cook faster than fresh beans.

To make this dish more indulgent, you can sprinkle shredded cheese on top during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Try adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce for extra flavor.

common recipe questions

What type of green beans are best for this recipe?

Fresh green beans are best for this recipe, as they will benefit from the longer cooking time. If you use frozen or canned green beans they will cook much faster and potentially be overcooked in the crock pot.

Can I use a different cream soup instead of mushroom?

You can use cream of chicken or cream of celery soup as a substitute for the cream of mushroom soup.

Can I prepare this recipe ahead of time?

You can assemble the ingredients in the crock pot ahead of time and refrigerate overnight. Simply cook according to the recipe when ready.

How can I make this casserole more flavorful?

You can add additional seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, or fresh herbs to enhance the flavor of the dish.

How should I store leftovers?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or oven until heated through.

Can I freeze the leftovers?

You can freeze the leftovers in a freezer-safe container for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

  1. leftyg REVIEW:

I've loved green bean casserole ever since I was a kid, but usually had the kind with canned green or string beans in them. This recipe was good, but was a little on the bland side. Nothing that can't be fixed with a few creative spices and seasoning ideas! Perhaps doubling the French fried onions would do it too.
