The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
1 lemon, juiced
15 leaves basil
1 can (5.75 ounce can size) pitted black olives
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt
12 slices French bread
5 ounces goat cheese
olive oil for pan
directions
Preheat the oven and a large, heavy pan to 325 degrees F.
Reserve 3 of the black olives if you wish for presentation.
Chop the basil, with the lemon juice, in a food processor. Add the olives and chop until coarse. Add the sea salt and olive oil and mix in.
Spread the olive mix onto the french bread slices.
Slice the goat cheese into thin slices and place on top of each bread slice.
Remove the heavy pan from the oven and spread just enough olive oil to evenly cover the pan.
Put the slices into the pan and bake for 10 minutes, until crispy on bottom and the cheese has just a touch of brown.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
