The trick to easily feeding a hard-to-please crowd? Slow-cooker wings. The trick to great slow-cooker wings? Giving them a quick, crispy broil before tossing them in the crockpot with a sweet and smoky sauce.
3 pounds chicken wings
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash black pepper
1 1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke, optional
sesame seeds, optional
Preheat the broiler. Grease the inside of a crock pot.
Remove the tips from the wings and separate into flats and drummies, if desired.
Place the chicken wings on a broiler pan and season both sides with salt and pepper. Place the pan under the broiler and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until browned. Transfer the browned wings to the crock pot.
Whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic, and liquid smoke. Pour over the wings in the crock pot. Gently stir the wings to coat them in the sauce.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through.
Transfer the wings to a serving platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

I like that these are broiled first as that makes a big different with the texture. Great flavor too. I didn't add the liquid smoke and really don't think it needed it but might try a dash next time.
