Experience the bold and rich flavors of India with this recipe for beef and potato curry. This hearty dish is made with tender beef, potatoes and a variety of spices.
2 pounds boneless beef stew meat
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 yellow onions, finely chopped
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1/4 cup ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
5 cups water
4 medium potatoes, peeled, quartered
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
Evenly coat the stew meat with the salt and turmeric and set aside.
Heat the oil over medium heat in a Dutch oven or deep skillet with a lid. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger and cook, stirring constantly, for 3-4 minutes or until the onion starts to soften.
Stir in the beef, cumin, coriander, paprika, cayenne, and cardamom. Mix well then cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.
Add the water and stir. Cover the pot and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender (about 45 minutes).
Add the potatoes and let cook, uncovered, for 20 more minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
Stir in the cilantro and serve the beef and potato curry hot.

Was very skeptical about making this due to the one review but I had all the ingredients so I moved ahead with it. It turned out really well I thought. Lots of seasoning and flavor and the beef was super tender. I'll make it again.

Made this dish, though the first review was terrible. I added flour to thicken it at the very end and it is a very delicious curry. I'll be making this dish again. Thank you so much for sharing.
first of all that last review was rude but in your method try browning the beef first like u would with a braise or a stew then remove and cook out the seasoning in the drippings followed by the veg this will add much more depth to the flavout but the seasoning ratio is spot on

I don't know what this watery cumin water was supposed to taste like, but it sure wasn't very good. What a waste of food.
