Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

If you are in New England, don't call this a milkshake. There, malted milk powder with milk, syrup, and ice cream is considered a frappe.

1/2 cup malted milk powder
2 tablespoons hot water
1 1/2 cup milk, whole or 2% are best
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
6 scoops chocolate ice cream
Stir together the malted milk powder and hot water in a small bowl or cup. Let cool then transfer the mixture to a blender.
Add the milk, chocolate syrup, and chocolate ice cream to the blender. Process until smooth.
Divide the malted chocolate frappe between tall glasses. Serve with additional ice cream, syrup, or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
