The Trawler Seafood Restaurant in South Carolina used to serve this rich crab dip as a complimentary appetizer as diners were seated at their tables.

1 1/4 cup heavy mayonnaise
1 cup fresh or canned crab meat, drained, flaked, and picked over for shells
1/4 cup bottled French salad dressing
1/2 cup very finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
Combine the mayonnaise, French dressing, cheese, and horseradish sauce in a bowl. Stir in the crab and mix until it is completely coated in the mayonnaise mixture.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate until well chilled (about an hour). The dip can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
Serve the crab dip with crackers.
