1 package dry yeast
1/2 cup sugar
salt
7 cups sifted flour
2 eggs
shortening
2 pounds ground beef
2 cups finely chopped onion
4 cups shredded cabbage
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon savory
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon MSG
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 egg yolk
directions
Dissolve yeast in 2 cups warm water in mixer bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes.
Mix with sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and 2 cups flour. Beat in 2 eggs and 2 tablespoons melted shortening until smooth. Stir in 5 cups flour. Beat for 5 minutes.
Let rise, covered, in warm place until doubled in bulk. Knead on lightly floured surface for several seconds. Roll into twelve 6 X 8-inch rectangles.
Cook ground beef, stirring frequently; drain.
Steam onions and cabbage with 1 tablespoon shortening and 2 tablespoons water for 10 to 15 minutes; drain. Add to ground beef mixture with 1 tablespoon salt, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings; cool.
Spoon 2/3 cup ground beef mixture lengthwise down center of each rectangle; seal sides and ends together. Place seam side down on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes.
Brush with egg yolk beaten with 2 tablespoons water. Bake for 5 to 10 minutes longer.
