ingredients
1/2 pound sharp Cheddar cheese
1 loaf French or Italian bread
1 can (8.75 ounce size) pineapple chunks
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 dash cayenne pepper
3 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
directions
Grate or dice cheese. Cut bread into 1-inch thick slices. Cut slices into cubes.
Drain pineapple, reserving juice for another use.
Preheat an electric skillet or skillet to 300 degrees F. Put in butter. When butter has melted, stir in flour, salt, mustard and pepper. Add milk and Worcestershire. Stir until smooth.
Continue to stir until mixture begins to bubble. Then lower temperature to 200 degrees F. Add cheese and pineapple chunks. Cook, stirring a final minute or until pineapple is heated.
Spoon over fresh bread cubes and serve at once.
