ingredients
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond flavoring
1 cup cream
1/2 pint vanilla or coffee ice cream (optional)
directions
Beat eggs slightly. Stir in sugar and salt. Add milk and cream. Cook in double boiler, stirring constantly, until mixture coats a spoon. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and chill.
Just before serving, beat well with a rotary beater. If desired, top with whipped cream and garnish with berries in season.
As a special treat, stir in 1/2 pint vanilla or coffee ice cream just before serving.
