Sauce it up like they do it in the Tar Heel state. Brown sugar and cayenne are crucial for this sauce, so you'll be in for a sweet and spicy kick whether you throw this stuff on a pulled pork sandwich or use it for dipping.

3 3/4 cups cider vinegar
2 3/4 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well to combine.
Cover the bowl and let stand at room temperature for 3-4 hours before using.
Use as a basting sauce while grilling or serve as a tangy dipping sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
