Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

ingredients
2 pounds combined ground pork and sirloin
1 egg
1 cup Italian breadcrumbs
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup tomato juice
1 pinch mix seasonings
1 bag shredded cheese (any kind)
Gravy
2 1/2 cups tomato juice
1 cup water
directions
Mix all ingredients except gravy ingredients together, also omitting cheese. Make into a loaf. Flatten loaf to about an inch thick. Sprinkle whole bag of cheese on top, making sure cheese doesn't overflow.
Roll back into loaf, covering all cheese with meat. Add gravy ingredients to bottom of 13 x 9 x 12 inch pan (makes a delicious gravy!)
Bake at 375 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until brown on top.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
