Irish Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce

ingredients
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup Irish whiskey
5 eggs
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
9 slices firm white bread
4 tablespoons butter, softened
Sauce
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons heavy cream
1/4 cup Irish whiskey
directions
For Pudding: Soak raisins in whiskey for 1 hour. Butter a 9 inch nonmetal baking dish.
In a bowl, blend eggs, cream, sugar, vanilla and spices. Butter one side of bread with softened butter. Cut slices diagonally.
Arrange half the bread in dish, overlapping pieces. Drain raisins and sprinkle half over bread. Repeat with remaining bread and raisins. Pour over custard and soak for 30 minutes.
Then place dish in a water bath and bake 400 degrees F for an hour or until top is golden and set. Remove dish from water bath and cool on rack.
For Sauce: Melt butter in saucepan, whisk in sugar and cream and whiskey. Simmer low until sauce thickens. Pour sauce over individual pudding portions.
