Bread Pudding

4 cups cubed white bread
1/2 cup raisins
2 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Vanilla Sauce

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

For pudding, in large bowl combine bread and raisins.

In 1 quart saucepan, combine milk and butter. Cook over medium heat 10 minutes or when butter has melted. Pour milk mixture over bread; let stand 10 minutes.

Stir in remaining pudding ingredients. Pour into greased casserole. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until set in center.

Vanilla Sauce: In saucepan combine sugar, brown sugar, whipping cream and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens and comes to a full boil, 5-8 minutes.

Stir in vanilla. Serve sauce over warm pudding.

  1. Liz REVIEW:

Amazing! My sister in law and I made this as a last minute dessert for Thanksgiving as we ended up having more guests than expected. Great choice of recipe and I think it was favored over our other holiday desserts.

This was very good. It makes a lot of sauce though which you might not need all of it (but it's really good sauce so find another use for the leftover). Only change I made was to add dried cranberries instead of raisins.

  3. Nana REVIEW:

Excellent recipe!!! Made it for an "after wedding" family gathering and it was a hit!!!!! I had to triple the recipe, but don't triple the sauce. Had way to much of it!!! Definitely 5 stars!!

My family knows that sadly I cannot cook, bake, etc. very well. But this is one recipe that was such an GREAT hit I'm now making 3 batches. What a great treat and the vanilla sauce is out of this world!
