ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 1 whole egg, beaten 1 egg yolk 2 cups buttermilk 1 teaspoon sugar 1 teaspoon Accent seasoning (MSG) 1 cup powdered coffee creamer 3 onions, sliced 1/2-inch thick
directions
Heat oil in a deep-fryer to 375 degrees F.
Place the flour in a shallow baking pan and stir in the salt and pepper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together all of the other ingredients (except onions) until frothy.
Dip the onion rings in the wet ingredients then into the flour mixture until coated. Then dip in the wet mixture again, and then into the flour again.
Fry the onion rings (in batches) in the hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels, and serve immediately.
My niece was a waitress here and her son cooked these. It was a requirement to have when we went there. I miss the many family times we enjoyed while dining here.

Baker's onion rings are the best! I grew up nearby and it was always a treat to go there. I have never eaten another onion ring that can measure up - and my California kids agree. I haven't tried the recipe - may consider buying a deep fryer. :-)

Haven't yet tried the recipe, but I can vouch for the real thing at Baker's - been eating there since their old original location in the late 1940s.
As to worrying about the MSG and powdered creamer for their health effects???
Folks, this is ONION RINGS deep fat fried. Gimme a break!!!
I try not to use MSG so I'll leave it out, but I don't eat onion rings saturated in oil for my health in the first place. (smile!)

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
