1 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups white granulated sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup key lime juice
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in a preheated oven for 90 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn it out onto wire rack.
While warm, prick top of cake with toothpick. Pour Key Lime Glaze over warm cake. Cool completely.
Key Lime Glaze: In small saucepan, combine sugar, butter and key lime juice. Bring to boil. Continue to boil, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Remove from heat.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
