Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

This is a basic, but delicious, chocolate pound cake. It's baked in a Bundt pan and you can frost or glaze it as you wish.

1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup shortening
2 3/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 eggs, at room temperature
3 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup milk, at room temperature
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a Bundt pan. Sift together dry ingredients; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in eggs one at a time on medium speed, scraping bowl with a spatula after each addition. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately while mixing on low speed, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix just until completely blended.
Mix a few more strokes with the spatula to be sure all dry ingredients are incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 1-1/2 hours, until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean.

I'll definitely make the low carb chocolate cupcakes. It's much easier nowadays to find low carb recipes that still taste good.
