Cream Cheese Pound Cake With Strawberry Topping

16 ounces sliced strawberries
8 ounces softened cream cheese
6 large eggs
2 1/2 cups sugar PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
5 tablespoons sugar, divided
1 cup softened butter
1 cup whipping cream
3 cups cake flour, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
strawberry syrup
fresh whole strawberries

Sprinkle sliced strawberries with the 2 tbsp. of sugar, cover and chill.
Beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed until creamy. Add in 2 1/2 cups of sugar and beat well. Add eggs to mixture and beat well. Stir in flour by hand. Add salt and vanilla extract.
Transfer batter into tube pan (10-inch). Bake for 1 hour and 50 minutes at 350 degrees F.
When cooled, cut into slices.
Beat whipping cream with mixer and 3 tbsp. of sugar, until peaks form. Serve cream with cake, topped with chilled strawberry mixture, and drizzle with strawberry syrup. Garnish with fresh strawberries.
