Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

The black walnuts were way more expensive than regular walnuts so I just bought regular and lightly toasted them to bring out more flavor. I will make this recipe again and try it with black walnuts if I can find them on sale or cheaper somewhere. A banana frosting would also go great on this!
