serves/makes:

ready in:
  30-60 minutes

ingredients

4 1/2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
5 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk
1 egg yolk, beaten

directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease baking sheets.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar with a mixer on medium speed. When light and fluffy, add the eggs one by one, vanilla, and milk. Mix on low speed.

Make a depression in the middle of the dry ingredients and add the egg mixture. Work the dough using a pastry cutter or two knives.

When the dough is mixed, divide it into 4 equal sized pieces. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets.

Brush the cookies with the egg yolk then bake at 325 degrees F until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes on the baking sheets. Remove the cookies to cooling racks to cool completely.
