Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

For falling into the category of Chocolate Fudge Cake, this dessert isn't so sickeningly sweet you can't eat a huge piece in one sitting. The cherry frosting holds well to the cake and won't droop as long as it is refrigerated. The cake stayed moist even when left uncovered in the fridge overnight.
