Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Made this tonight and we loved it. I was leery about using such few ingredients but it was tasty and moist and I will be making this again as it is sooooooo easy.

This is great. I have been making it for years. Also good with the cherry pie filling. to make a smaller amount you can use 1 can of filling in a 9 in pie dish use 1 box of the Jiffy cake mix and butter. YUM

I made this with a lemon cake mix and cherry pie filling = YUM! After it cooled I just sprinkled it with powdered sugar. I took it to a potluck and it was great!

I make homemade apple pie in a jar and was searching online for a cake recipe. I used this recipe with the addition of adding Smucker's caramel sauce. I put half of the batter in the pan; drizzled some caramel sauce; put the rest of the batter in the pan. When I took it out of the oven I drizzled more on top to form a thin layer and served it with cool whip. It was a great success! very moist and easy when you are limited on time to make a great dessert.

This cake was so dry nobody would eat it. It was awful. Shouldn't there be some oil or water in the recipe?

A followup: We tried this with cherry pie filling too - and it was very tasty. Don't use a mixer with the cherry filling (unless a pink cake is what you are going for). We carefully swirled the filling through the cake mix. We also omitted the cinnamon/sugar layer.

This recipe is incredibly easy and great for a last minute dessert. The directions call for using a mixer to blend the ingredients which will mix the apple filling into the mix more - but if you want larger chunks of apple, just blend the ingredients with a spoon and bake as directed. The result is a moist, not-too-sweet cake. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or even maple syrup. You can use apple pie spice in place of the cinnamon sugar if you wish.

I frosted this cake with store bought cream cheese frosting. I enjoyed the frosting more than the cake. It wasn't horrible, but it was "just cake". I made this three days ago and there is still half left. This recipe was very quick though and might be good for a pot luck.
