A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.


Nebraska's twist on the grilled cheese features deep-fried sandwiches assembled with mayo and stuffed with cheese, finished off with a crunchy cornflake shell.


6 slices bread
mayonnaise
6 slices American cheese
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
cornflake crumbs, finely crushed
oil, for deep frying
Prepare sandwiches in the usual manner using the mayonnaise and the cheese (spread bread with mayo and place 2 slices of cheese between two slices of bread). Cut each cheese sandwich into four quarters.
Make the dipping batter by beating the milk, flour, egg and the salt together. Dip the cheese sandwiches in the coating batter. Now roll the cheese sandwiches in the crushed cornflakes crumbs to coat the cheese sandwiches.
Heat the oil to 375 degrees F. and deep fry the coated cheese sandwiches until they are golden brown.
Some people cut off the crust from the sandwiches before dipping them in the coating batter.

Deep fried cheese sandwiches! Hot damn these were good! Not good for you, but good.
