Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

I love this recipe because it is so easy to make, and modify to your own tastes. I like to add extra almond extract and coat them with powdered sugar after they bake. Yum!

These cookies were easy to make, but they turned out tasting like over-sweet sawdust held together by shortening. Even the almond extract did not redeem them! The recipe was a bit vague. (What 'extra' sugar? How long should the dough be chilled?)
