ingredients

1 jar (28-32 ounce size) pasta sauce
1 cup sour cream
3 cups water
1 pound mostaccioli or penne pasta
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

directions

Lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.

Combine the pasta sauce, sour cream, and water in a bowl. Mix well. Stir in the uncooked pasta and mix until the pasta is coated in the sauce.

Place half the pasta mixture in the prepared baking dish. Cover the pasta with half of the cheese. Top with the remaining pasta followed by the remaining cheese.

Cover the pan with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator overnight.

When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Remove the plastic wrap from the pan and cover the pan with aluminum foil (do not cover with foil overnight). Place the pan in the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 1 1/4 hours. Remove the foil and bake for 20 more minutes or until the mixture is bubbly.

Serve hot.

I really wanted this recipe to be good! I followed the recipe exactly, but it was extremely bland and the pasta turned into mush. Could definitely benefit from more seasoning, but no way to fix the pasta consistency. It was so bad, we threw the rest away.

    • What kind of pasta did you use? Regular durum wheat pasta shouldn't turn to mush (and hasn't when we've made it). And you're adding it uncooked, correct? If anything, the pasta has turned out a little too undercooked when we've made it if it didn't sit long enough in the fridge overnight.

I browned some ground beef, drained it, and then combined with the sauce and proceeded with the recipe. This is a delicious recipe and is great that it can be made ahead and then just baked when you are ready.

Pretty basic recipe. I decided to add some veggies so I put in chopped up red peppers, green peppers, onion, muchrooms, etc. I think I would add ground turkey if I made this again. It's not bad and easy to make. I love not having to cook the noodles first.
