Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

These copycat Applebee's pizza snacks are somewhere in the delicious in-between of pizza and breadsticks. Sausage, pepperoni, or any of your other favorite pizza toppings can make them even more next-level.
Sauce
1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
1 tomato, finely diced
1 tablespoon diced onion
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon dried basil
Pizza Sticks
1 package (10 ounce size) rectangular-shaped refrigerated pizza dough
vegetable oil, for frying
1 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
Optional Toppings
pepperoni, diced
Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
Canadian bacon, chopped
sliced black olives
sliced jalapenos
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet.
For the dipping sauce, combine the tomato sauce, diced tomato, onion, sugar, oregano, salt, and basil in a saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Let simmer while you prepare the pizza snacks.
Unroll the pizza dough onto a cutting board. Cut the dough in half lengthwise so it forms two rectangles. Cut each rectangle into 1 1/2-inch wide slices. Place the slices on the greased baking sheet and place in the oven for 3 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
Turn the oven to broil.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 350 degrees F (or heat 1 inch of oil in a deep, heavy skillet on the stove).
Add the pizza snacks to the oil in batches and cook, turning as needed, until browned. Remove from the oil and let drain on paper toweling.
Line a baking sheet with foil. Transfer the pizza snacks to the baking sheet. Sprinkle each one evenly with Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Combine the oregano, basil, and garlic salt and sprinkle over each pizza snack. If adding other toppings, arrange them over the spices.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and serve the pizza snacks hot with the dipping sauce on the side.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Not to be confused with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is very sweet (and very sticky) and used primarily in desserts.
