3 tablespoons shortening
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup bran
directions
Blend shortening, sugar, and egg together.
Sift together the baking soda, baking powder, salt and flour. Add bran and buttermilk. Combine dry ingredients with the rest, mixing well.
Pour into greased muffin tins. Bake in a 375 degrees F oven for 20-25 minutes.

I was also puzzled by the omission of sugar from the list of ingredients (or added to the directions by mistake?) and no indication as to how long you bake them for.

The directions to this recipe refer to sugar, but the ingredients list did not. I added a cup of sugar and it turned out well. I also added a shake of cinnamon and a finely diced apple and it was terrific.
