Easy Cranberry Wild Rice

ingredients
1 cup diced onion
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 can (16 ounce size) whole berry cranberry sauce
2 packages (6 ounce size) long grain or wild rice mix (such as Uncle Ben's)
1 1/2 cup diced celery
2 minced shallots
directions
Cook onion, celery and shallots in butter until tender in large skillet. Add enough water to cranberry sauce to equal 4 1/2 cups.
Add cranberry sauce to rice and seasoning packet to skillet. Stir and bring to a boil.
Cover tightly and cook over low heat until liquid is absorbed (25 minutes).

This basic recipe is a family favorite. I had lost it, and was glad to find it again online. I add slivered almonds as well.
