awsome receipe.wish it was around 30 yrs ago. however i want to let you all know that i tried another type of cake mix-just for fun. it's COOKIN RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK. SAME DIRECTIONS AS BEFORE..EXCEPT I'M MAKING A PINEAPPLE "RIGHT SIDE UP CAKE". 1ST LAYER- BROWN SUGAR,2ND LAYER (optional) small amt. of cocoanut, then drained can of pineapple (any kind) then duncan hines pineapple upside down cake mix thenstick of butter. I THINK THAT I MAY USE SOME OF THE RESERVED PINEAPPLE JUICE LIKE- PRICK CAKE WITH 2 PRONG ROAST FORK-AND DRIZZLE JUST A LITTLE JUICE-JUST A LITTLE. I KNOW THIS IS GONNA BE SLAMMING. I OPTED - NO CHERRYS BUT U CAN PUT IN WITH PINEAPPLE. ALSO I COOKED THIS 15 MINUTES LONGER. I AM COOKING IN A 6 QT.CROCK POT. TRY THIS VARIATION...U GUYS WILL LOVE IT. *** NEXT ONE I'M TRYING IS GERMAN CHOCOLATE,WORKIN ON A PLAN NOW. THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE INSPIRATION. :?)

Cooked this on low as suggested by others - turned out great! SOOOO easy! Scooped it out and served with ice cream.

Good recipe. Cooked on low instead of high though since others mentioned that it burned for them. Turned out fine on low so maybe that is a typo?

I made this recipe for a Christmas party turned out wonderful guests loved it.. unfortuantly my computer crashed and I lost the recipe came back to copy it again..soo glad I read thru the comments I ended up getting a new crock pot for Xmas that latches I will cook it on low instead of hi You really should add to the recipe if using an older crock pot to use high and if new crock pot to use low.. I think this will be helpful to others...

COMMENT:
I have not made the Apple Cobbler but I did make the Blackberry Cobbler. It came out great. It did not burn.It cook all the way through. Now I am going to try the Apple Cobbler. My crockepot is 33 year old maybe that is why it cook so well.

Made this EXACTLY as written. One side where the apple bubbled up was a bit burnt but the rest was great. I have a newer Hamilton Beach Crock Pot with the lid that latches down. I opened it up a few times because I was sceptical! I'll make it again.

I made this today at work for a birthday, even though I hadn't ever tried it before. It was more like a cobbler than a cake.

It tasted very yummy with ice cream. It might be a bit dry on its own.

I didn't stir it at all but I might next time, reserving a little of the cake-butter mixture to sprinkle on top of the stirred mix. It was fun to have a hot dessert at work

We used a very tall narrow crock pot. My guess is this would work better in one that allowed things to be spread thinner -- in other words a less vertical crock pot.

COMMENT:
FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS EXACTLY, IN 2 HRS.................BURNT

CDKitchen Staff Reply:
Some of the newer crockpots may be too hot to cook this on high. Also, make sure your lid fits tightly or you could be losing vital moisture (which could lead to the cobbler burning too)

I made this for a potluck at work and everyone loved it! I, myself, prefer the cunch and crispiness of oven baking. The only thing I did differently was to fold the ingredients in the pot after it had cooked for about 1.5 hours which made it seem more like a cobbler (which I was shooting for) than a cake. It is a same that I forgot the vanilla ice cream!!!!
