Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.


1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup rolled oats
1 egg (beaten)
1 1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup raisins or chopped nuts
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Add and mix shortening. Stir until mixture is crumbly.
Stir in egg, pumpkin, oats and raisins(or nuts). Drop teaspoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake fifteen minutes or until done.
