ingredients
Caramel Sauce
1 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
Dumplings
1/2 cup white sugar
4 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 dash salt
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
directions
For Caramel Sauce: Combine all ingredients in a large, heavy skillet with a lid. Stir well to combine as butter melts and heat to boiling. Turn down to simmer before dropping dumplings in.
For Dumplings: Mix sugar, baking powder, salt and flour together. Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk and vanilla until just combined.
Drop dumplings by spoonfuls into Caramel Sauce. Cover and simmer for 12-15 minutes, turning dumplings halfway through cooking time.
