ingredients

3 pounds pork country-style ribs
1 cup ketchup
8 ounces cola, not diet

directions

Place the ribs in the crock pot. In a bowl, combine the ketchup and cola and gently stir to combine. Pour over the ribs.

Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 2 hours. Reduce the heat to low and cook 3-4 more hours or until the ribs are tender and cooked through.

Serve the country-style pork ribs with the sauce.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

Place the ribs in the crockpot in a single layer if possible for even cooking.

Avoid lifting the lid of the crockpot too often to maintain a consistent temperature.

Turn the ribs halfway through the cooking time if your crockpot heats unevenly.

Let the ribs rest for a few minutes after cooking for the juices to redistribute.

Experiment with different types of cola for a subtle variation in taste.

common recipe questions

Why can't I use diet cola in this recipe?

Diet colas usually contain artificial sweeteners that aren't meant to be heated. They may cause the pork ribs to take on an unpleasant, bitter flavor if used. If you are looking to reduce the sugar content in the recipe try using a no-sugar-added or sugar-free ketchup. They are usually heat stable and won't cause the same bitter flavor.

What type of pork ribs are best for this recipe?

Country-style pork ribs, which are meatier and less fatty than other types, are ideal for this recipe.

How can I tell when the ribs are fully cooked?

The ribs should be tender and the meat should easily pull away from the bone.

Is there a substitute for ketchup in the sauce?

Barbecue sauce can be used as a substitute for ketchup for a zestier flavor.

Can I cook the ribs on low heat for the entire time?

Yes, you can cook them on low for 6-8 hours, but starting on high heat helps to bring the ribs up to temperature more quickly.

How do I prevent the ribs from drying out?

The liquid from the cola and ketchup mixture helps to keep the ribs moist during cooking.

Can I add other ingredients to the sauce?

Feel free to add ingredients like garlic powder, onion powder, or Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.

What sides go well with country-style pork ribs?

Serve with sides like coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread for a complete meal.

Can I make this recipe in an oven if I don’t have a crockpot?

Yes, bake the ribs covered in a preheated oven at 300 degrees F for about 2-3 hours or until tender.

How should I store and reheat leftovers?

Store leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave or oven until heated through.

I am making the ribs in the slow cooker and they are not getting browned as pictured. Can you tell me why am I doing something wrong.

    • Slow cookers don't really brown food (food touching the sides will often brown a little). What we usually do for things like ribs is to put them under the broiler for a few minutes before serving to get a nice brown color. It doesn't really add anything to the recipe other than visual appeal so it's not really necessary (they taste delicious either way!)

Instead of ketchup I used bbq sauce. SO GOOD!
