crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

Try different types of cooked meats like bacon or sausage for different flavors.

Make sure the crockpot is well-greased to prevent sticking.

If using pre-diced ham, dry it a bit with paper toweling before adding it to reduce excess moisture, helping the quiche set properly.

Add cooked vegetables to add more nutrients and flavor; just be mindful of the moisture content.

For a richer flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce to the egg mixture.

Covering the crockpot with paper towels prevents condensation from dripping onto the quiche.

Using a cheese with a sharper flavor, like aged cheddar, can improve the dish significantly.

common recipe questions

Can I use different types of cheese in the quiche?

You can substitute different cheeses such as mozzarella, Swiss, or pepper jack. Just make sure you use a cheese that melts well.

What can I use instead of evaporated milk?

You can substitute evaporated milk with half-and-half or a mixture of equal parts milk and cream for a similar richness. For a lighter version, you can also use regular milk. Keep in mind that evaporated milk works better in a crock pot and the long cooking time because it doesn't curdle easily like cream or milk can.

What type of ham is best for the quiche?

You can use any cooked ham, such as deli ham, leftover holiday ham, or even ham steak. For a more intense flavor, use smoked ham.

How do I know when the quiche is done cooking?

The quiche is done when the edges are browned, and the center is set and no longer jiggly. You can also insert a knife in the center; it should come out clean.

Can I make this quiche in the oven instead of a crockpot?

Yes, to make it in the oven, preheat it to 350 degrees F and bake in a greased pie dish for about 30-40 minutes or until set.

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Make sure it cools completely before sealing.

Can I freeze crustless ham and cheese quiche?

You can freeze it for up to 2-3 months. Allow it to cool completely before wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap and then placing it in a freezer-safe container.

How do I reheat the quiche?

Reheat individual portions in the microwave for about 30-60 seconds, or in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.

Can I add herbs or spices to the quiche?

You can add herbs like chives, parsley, or thyme to add more flavor. You can also add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.

What if I don't have Bisquick baking mix?

You can make a homemade version or use Jiffy brand or another brand baking mix.

Can I use regular salt in place of seasoned salt?

You can use regular salt instead of seasoned salt, but seasoned salt contains additional spices. Start with about 1/4 teaspoon of regular salt and add any herbs or spices you enjoy, like garlic powder, paprika, or onion powder, to add more flavor.

tools needed

Crock Pot: For cooking the quiche.

Measuring Cups and Spoons: For measuring ingredients such as the Bisquick baking mix, shredded cheese, and seasoned salt.

Mixing Bowl: A bowl for combining the eggs, evaporated milk, salt, and pepper before adding the other ingredients.

Whisk: Used for blending the eggs and evaporated milk together.

Non-Stick Cooking Spray: To grease the inside of the crock pot, preventing the quiche from sticking during cooking.

Paper Towels: These are used under the lid of the crock pot, which helps absorb excess moisture.

Spatula or Mixing Spoon: For stirring the ham and cheese into the egg mixture.

what goes with it?

Fresh Fruit Salad: A fruit salad can provide a bright contrast to the richness of the quiche.

Side Salad with Vinaigrette: A crisp side salad with a light vinaigrette dressing would pair nicely with the meal. The acidity of the vinaigrette cuts through the creaminess of the quiche.

Roasted Asparagus: Roasted asparagus brings an earthy flavor that pairs well with the ham and cheese.

Garlic Bread: Garlic bread offers a crunchy texture and garlicky flavor that complements the quiche.

Spinach and Strawberry Salad: This combination brings together the savory notes from the spinach and the sweetness of strawberries. A sprinkle of nuts would add another layer of texture.

Homemade Tomato Salsa: A vibrant tomato salsa with fresh herbs provides a zesty contrast. A nice (and more civilized) condiment for those who like ketchup on their eggs.

Chutney: A sweet and tangy chutney, such as mango or apple, offers flavor that enhances the savory elements of the quiche.

Dijon Mustard: The sharpness of the mustard contrasts nicely with the creaminess of the cheese. A dollop added to the egg mixture before cooking can kick it up a notch.

beverage pairings

Wine Pairings
Chardonnay: Go for a buttery, oaked Chardonnay here. Its rich and creamy texture can nicely match the cheesy goodness of the quiche while cutting through the savoriness of the ham. Look for one that has had some aging in oak barrels for those toasty notes.

Sauvignon Blanc: A crisp, bright Sauvignon Blanc brings a bit of acidity that contrasts nicely with the rich cheese and ham.

Pinot Noir: A lighter red like Pinot Noir works surprisingly well as it's low in tannins and its delicate berry flavors can complement the ham. Look for one with raspberry and earthiness for a balanced flavor.

Other Alcohol Pairings
Sparkling Wine: A dry Champagne or Brut sparkling wine refreshes the palette between each rich bite of the quiche. Plus, it's a classic brunch pairing.

Light Beer: A pilsner or a light lager delivers a clean, crisp option that won't compete with your dish.

Vermouth: Dry vermouth served over ice with a twist can give a pleasant brightness that rounds out the creamy aspects of the quiche.

Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Sparkling Water: A splash of sparkling water can lightly cleanse the palate between bites.

Herbal Tea: A light herbal tea, like chamomile or mint, brings warmth and subtle flavor that complements the richness of quiche without being overwhelming.

Tomato Juice: For something different, tomato juice offers a refreshing earthiness that's a great match with the quiche's flavors.
