A can of cream of mushroom soup can be a real dinner saver. It works great in casseroles and can turn into a sauce or gravy in a pinch.

A marvelous mulled cider like this one is the perfect finishing touch on a holiday meal. Bright citrus with warming spices and an optional pour of rum makes a wintertime punch to help you (was)sail away from the chilly weather.

2 quarts apple cider
1 cup packed brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
24 whole cloves
4 cups frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
2 cups pineapple juice
additional whole cloves (optional)
9 thick orange slices, cut in half (optional)
Combine the apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the temperature to low. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Add the orange juice and pineapple juice. Heat through.
Press cloves into the rinds of the orange slices. Place the slices in individual mugs or heatproof glasses. Strain the wassail into the glasses.
Or, place the orange slices in a crock pot and strain the wassail into the crock pot to keep it warm.

The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

I made this for our Halloween party and the whole crock pot was full. In an hour, it was gone. My friends have asked me to make it again for Thanksgiving. I gave the recipe to a friend who was hosting a card game at her house and her guests loved it as well. It is so tasty and makes your house smell incredible!
