The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup water or peach nectar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 cups peeled sliced fresh peaches
1 cup blueberries
TOPPING
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup butter, softened
In a saucepan, combine first 5 ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring until thick. Add fruit and pour into a 2 quart baking dish.
For topping, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in milk and butter.
Spread over fruit mixture and bake at 375 degrees F for 50 minutes or until topping is golden brown and tests done. Serve warm.

This is a wonderful and very simple desert. The family raved about it and there was enough leftover for me to have a tasty snack the next day. I used fresh blueberries and very ripe peaches, so I should have cut back the sugar in both parts of the recipe (even the kids thought it was a little too sweet). I will definitely make this again (and again and again!)
