This Italian cheese is so versatile that it can be used in both sweet and savory recipes from cheesecakes to lasagnas.

Beer brats are the move for taking your cookout game to the next level. A combo of beer and cola keeps the brats moist without being too sweet and the peppers and onions make a righteous topping.

10 bratwurst
10 hot Italian sausages
6 bell peppers, seeded and thinly sliced in strips
6 onions, peeled and sliced 1/2-inch thick
2 bottles (12 ounce size) beer, more as needed
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 can (12 ounce size) cola (not diet)
Place the bratwurst and Italian sausages in the crock pot. Layer the bell peppers and onions on top of the meats.
Add the beer, soy sauce, garlic powder, chili powder, and cola to the crock pot. If the meat and vegetables are not covered by liquid, add additional beer until they are fully covered.
Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 2-3 hours or until the sausages are cooked through.
Remove the bratwurst, sausages, and vegetables with tongs or a slotted spoon and place on buns. Top with any desired condiments such as spicy mustard or ketchup. Serve immediately.
Diet soft drinks contain artificial sweeteners which can develop a bitter taste when cooked. The amount of sugar that is consumed from cooking the ingredients in the regular cola is negligible.

This makes some of the most wonderful brats! The beer and cola mixture really gives it a good flavor without being too sweet like I often find recipes that use something like bbq sauce in them. And since it's in the crock pot you can cook this anytime of the year and not just during grilling season.
