The delicious flavors of a fruit crisp on top of rich and creamy brie. It's a dip you won't want to stop eating! Serve warm with toasted bread rounds.

serves/makes:

ready in:
  30-60 minutes

ingredients

1 round (8-10 ounce size) brie, rind removed
1 apple, peeled and chopped
1 pear, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup quick cooking oats
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch salt
1/4 cup toasted walnuts, optional

directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Grease a small cast iron skillet or pie plate. Place the brie in the middle.

Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl until well mixed and the butter is thoroughly distributed.

Spoon the fruit crisp over the brie, covering the top and spooning it around the sides.

Place the skillet or pie plate in the oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the brie is soft and the topping is lightly browned.

Serve the fruit crisp topped brie dip with toasted bread, crackers, or melba toast.

recipe tips

For a festive twist, add a splash of brandy or rum to the fruit mixture.

If the topping browns too quickly, loosely cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Experiment with different fruit combinations based on seasonal availability.

To enhance the flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the fruit mixture.

Serve this dip as a unique appetizer at parties or as a dessert with a sweet wine pairing.

If using a cast iron skillet, remember it retains heat, so the brie will stay melted longer.

common recipe questions

Can I use any type of apple and pear for this recipe?

Yes, you can use any variety, but firmer apples and pears, like Granny Smith apples and Bosc pears, hold up better during baking.

Is it necessary to remove the rind from the brie?

While the rind is edible, removing it allows the creamy cheese to meld better with the fruit crisp topping.

Can frozen or canned fruit be used instead of fresh?

Fresh fruit is recommended for the best texture and flavor, but in a pinch, well-drained canned fruit can be used.

What can I substitute for dried cranberries?

Dried cherries, raisins, or chopped dried apricots can be used as alternatives.

Can I use old-fashioned oats instead of quick-cooking oats?

Yes, but the texture will be chewier. Quick-cooking oats provide a softer topping.

Can I prepare this dip in advance?

You can assemble the dip ahead of time and refrigerate it. Bake it just before serving for the best results.

What are some serving suggestions?

Serve with a variety of dippers like sliced baguette, apple slices, graham crackers, or artisanal crackers.
