German Chocolate Pig-Out

ingredients
1 package German chocolate cake mix
2/3 cup evaporated milk
3/4 cup margarine, melted
1 package (16 ounce size) caramels, unwrapped
1 cup pecans, chopped
8 ounces chocolate chips
directions
Combine cake mix, half the evaporated milk and melted margarine. Spread half of mixture in bottom of 9" x 13" cake pan. Bake for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Heat the caramels and rest of evaporated milk until melted. On the baked layer, spread the pecans and chocolate chips and the melted caramels and milk mixture. Top with the other half of cake batter.
Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F.

I'd never had German chocolate cake without coconut before. Wow, was this rich! Lots of caramel. Start small, with a little piece. Pecans are very filling, I find.
