October is National Pretzel Month
To say that something is "pretzel-shaped" evokes a unique but familiar icon. The three rings of a traditional pretzel are said to represent the Holy Trinity and have become a symbol, like barber poles, adorning and identifying bakeries across Europe. German home bakers who lacked eggs or lard could still bake this fortifying, dense bread with just flour, water, and a little salt. It's National Pretzel Month!
