The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

These kabobs have something for everyone. Made with beef, chicken, in different marinades and loaded up with fresh veggies.

1/4 cup olive oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons dry sherry
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 pound lean beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 pound chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 bottle (8-10 ounce size) Italian salad dressing
2 onions, peeled and quartered
1 pint cherry tomatoes
1 pound fresh button mushroom caps
2 yellow, red or green bell peppers, or a combination, cut in squares
1 can (15 ounce size) pineapple chunks, drained
Combine the olive oil, garlic, sherry, and soy sauce in a non-reactive bowl or zip-top plastic bag. Add the beef and mix well. Cover the bowl and let marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Combine the chicken and Italian dressing in another bowl or zip-top plastic bag. Mix well and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
Remove the chicken and beef from the marinade. Alternate pieces of beef or chicken with onion, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, and pineapple on metal skewers (if using wood skewers, make sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes before using). Place the skewers on the hot grill and cook until done, turning as needed to cook on all sides (total grill time should be around 10-12 minutes).

These kabobs were delicious!!! We ate them with corn on the cob, and the meal was complete. The marinade for the beef was not overpowering, yet strong enough to not need dipping. I didn't have any pineapple or cherry tomatoes, but used red and green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. My husband couldn't stop raving about the mushrooms...he LOVES them. Brushing the Italian dressing while they were grilling made the veggies taste excellent, and I normally don't eat peppers! Thanks for sharing, this recipe has gone straight into my cookbook.
