Unleash the power of your crockpot with these sausage pepper sandwiches. They're a no-fuss, all-flavor kind of meal that brings a bit of Italian zest right to your doorstep - or at least to your dinner table.
5 hot or sweet Italian sausage links
1 medium green bell pepper, seeded and cut in 1-inch pieces
1 large onion, cut in 1-inch pieces
1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
6 hoagie or submarine sandwich buns, split
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage links and cook, turning as needed, until browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and place on a cutting board. Slice into 1/2-inch slices and then place them in the crock pot.
Add the bell pepper, onion, tomato sauce, and black pepper to the crock pot. Mix well.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 4 hours or until the sausage is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
Using a slotted spoon, serve the sausage and vegetables on the buns. Top with condiments if desired.
