Country Sausage, Broccoli, and Potatoes Au Gratin

ingredients
1 pound smoked sausage, cut into 1/2 inch slices
1 large onion, chopped
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 package au gratin potatoes
2 1/2 cups hot water
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 medium carrots, cut into 2 inch julienne strips
1 package (10 ounce size) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
directions
Cook and stir sausage and onion in oil in 10 or 12 inch skillet until onion is tender, about 5 minutes.
Stir in potatoes, sauce mix, water and pepper. Heat to boiling, then reduce heat. Cover and simmer, stirring occasional, for 10 minutes.
Stir in carrot strips, then cover and simmer until carrots are crisp-tender and potatoes are tender, about 10 minutes.
Stir in broccoli until it is heated through and cheese is melted, 5 to 10 minutes.
