Christmas Ribbon Cookies

ingredients
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
red food coloring
1/4 cup candied cherries, chopped
green food coloring
1/4 cup nuts, chopped
1 ounce baking chocolate, melted
directions
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg. Stir into dry ingredients. Add vanilla.
Divide dough into 3 equal parts. Color 1 part with red food coloring as desired. Add cherries. Color 1 part with green food coloring as desired. Add nuts. Add chocolate to remaining dough.
Line a loaf pan with waxed paper. Place chocolate dough on bottom. Pat into pan. Layer green dough. Layer red dough on top. Chill overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice dough. Arrange on ungreased nonstick cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes or until done (Do not over bake).
NOTE: Do not slice cookies too thin, as colors will fade during baking.
