Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

- #26398
over 5 hrs
ingredients
1 package (6 ounce size) stuffing mix
4 Cornish hens
salt and pepper, to taste
Sauce
1 jar (10 ounce size) red currant jelly
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon allspice
directions
Mix stuffing according to package directions and stuff hens. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place trivet in slow cooker.
In a 3-1/2 quart crock pot, place hens on end, neck end down.
In saucepan combine jelly, raisins, butter, lemon juice and allspice. Cook on low heat, stirring, until blended. Brush some of the sauce on hens in the pot. Brush hens once during cooking, if possible.
Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 5-7 hours. Spoon remaining sauce over hens at serving time.
NOTE: If you don't have a trivet, you can crumple up aluminum foil and place that in the bottom - it's just so the birds don't rest in the liquids while cooking.

This Italian cheese is so versatile that it can be used in both sweet and savory recipes from cheesecakes to lasagnas.
The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
