Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

This was a delicious way to enjoy a game hen. The sauce is very flavorful and the right balance of sweet, savory and tangy! My 6 y.o. was delighted to feast upon this and actually ate a whole hen!
