ingredients

1 teaspoon sugar
1 package dry yeast
2 tablespoons butter
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk
1 egg, beaten
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

directions

Dissolve sugar in warm water in large bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over water. Let stand 10 minutes, then stir well.

Stir in warm milk, butter and beaten egg. Combine 2 cups flour, cheese and salt. Stir well to blend. Add flour/cheese mixture to wet ingredients and beat with electric mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes.

Add remaining flour, beating well with wooden spoon. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled (about 45 minutes).

Push or stir down and turn into two well greased 1 quart casseroles. Let rise until doubled (about 30 minutes).

Bake at 375 degrees F for 30-40 minutes. Remove from casseroles immediately and cool on wire racks.
