Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

cook's notes
Goes great over fried potatoes, hash browns or scrambled eggs. It also goes well with mashed potatoes or white rice for dinner.
My mom, was from Georgia. Dad always said he taught her how to cook since he was a chef in the Army back during the Korean War. I'm not sure how much he taught her or how original this recipe is but she taught me how to cook and I have made my adaptions to some of her recipes but this is exactly how she taught me to make hamburger gravy.
